PIP seminar and Launch of South Rift Branch

The 7th November 2019 marked a historic moment where the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) launched the IEK South Rift Branch in a colourful ceremony in Nakuru town.
The launch was a climax of a day long Professional Interview Preparation (PIP) seminar that was held on the same day. The IEK South Rift Branch is the fourth branch within the boundaries of Kenya, with the objective to reach to engineers within the region. Talking about regions, the South Rift Branch covers Baringo, Bomet, Kericho, Lakipia, Nakuru, Narok, Nyandarua and Samburu counties.

Engineers within these counties are invited to register their details to form a rich network of professionals, where their agenda can be addressed. The launch was witnessed by graduate and professional engineers. The Launch of IEK’s latest branch was graced by Acting CEO Eng. Linda, Eng. Jane Mutilili (1st Vice President), Eng. Emelda Odhiambo (2nd Vice President), Eng. Emmanuel Mwashigadi (IEK Treasurer), Council members Eng. Shammah Kiteme and Eng. Eric Ohaga.

IEK South Rift Branch made a bold move to conduct PIP seminar and Launch of the branch at a record cost of 5000sh. This was a first in the region, offering a pocket friendly seminar for engineers where they would gain valuable training tools to prepare them for the professional interview which would lead to their registration as professional engineers. The content of the seminar covered the legal aspects that govern the engineering profession, which include the Engineers Act 2011, the Engineers Rules 2019 and the Engineers Code of Conduct. In the plenary, seminar attendees were briefed on the formats needed during the application process for registration. In order to have a bespoke approach, the PIP seminar had break away sessions in the civil, electrical and mechanical disciplines, where detailed tailor made templates for preparation for project and report were further explained by the facilitators. IEK South Rift Branch is currently under the leadership of an interim council, led by Eng. Michael Kamau. To ensure that the branch remains vibrant, the interim council members is reaching out to all engineers within the coverage of the South Rift Branch to register as members of the branch. Following this, the branch will conduct a membership drive on 27th November 2019 to register engineers, encouraging them to have regular meetings within their counties, and electing their own officials to represent them in their respective capacities.
